Geisha

I love Geisha, have done for a while… and I often spend hours searching the net to find Geisha fabric after I bought a couple of Geisha print pads for myself :)   But its often hard to find one I like… I’m not really into the old fashioned style Geisha art… but then hello kitty Geisha, while cute (and I have bought a pad in that too) isn’t what I was after….

I found one  lovely one, but the store didn’t say what size the actual Geisha were, and as I figured they would be large, I didn’t want to buy it and find they were too big.  So I e-mailed them, twice, and asked how much postage was to Aus and how big the Geisha were… no reply either times :(   So I kept looking and not finding anything else, until recently, when I found someone else selling it, and they mentioned the size of the Geisha – YAY so I assumed they would fit, and I bought the 1/2 yard they had ($15AUD plus postage OUCH!)

I got it, and fell in love (again)…. perfect!  Getting the most Geisha from the fabric is a bit tricky, but I managed to get 10 pads from the 1/2 yard, and a couple of wingless pantyliners from the offcuts.

So I went back online and bought some from the original place I found it, and then I also was checking another online shop for different fabric and found they had some too (and cheaper), so I bought more from them.  So I think I have 6 yards of it coming.

I also got one yard of a Geisha faces fabric, which was also nice (sounds odd but its a similar style might be from the same maker), but its just a repeating print of Geisha faces.

So I made up the first pads….. I was trying to decide if I should make the print as the top and back it with PUL, or use a similar colour flannelette as the top, but I decided to stick with an Asian theme, and used the little bit of bamboo velour I had as the tops, and bamboo fleece as the inner core.

I’m quite pleased with how they turned out, I nabbed one for myself (a teeny section of the bamboo came loose at the edge, so that was obviously destined for me!)…. was tempted to keep one of each so I had a whole set, but maybe from the next batch so I’ll leave some for everyone else haha.  They were a bit of a bugger to sew though.  I’ve never sewn with bamboo velour before, and even when I used heaps of pins, the layers kept shifting around…very annoying.
They are just previewing at the moment, because I’m running an auction to raise money for posting the donated pads, and I didn’t want it to overshaddow that.. and it gives me time to have more stock available when I restock with those..

But you can see them here: http://obsidianstar.wahmweb.com/Store/index.asp

I made a special category for the Geisha, since I might try and do them as an occasional special thing.
So let me know what you think… do you love them?, not fussed?  Geisha not your thing?
