Menarche Ceremony & Kit, and Menstrual Diary
A week or so ago I added an updated version of the Menses (Mensuration) ritual to my CPS store (removing Pagan stuff so that it’s suitable for all), and added a Menarche (First Period) one I’d been wanting to write for ages. I’ve looked at lots of Menarche ceremonies, but I’d not liked the way most of them centre around leaving the girl behind to become a woman (usually they have to surrender a childhood toy for this). So I’ve concentrated on the welcoming the young woman into womanhood more. Again, it’s not religious, so that it can be used by anyone.
Then Early this week I added a Menstrual Diary I’d been working on – this I think is a unique diary, since I’ve decided to make it so that it can be reused year after year! Instead of having the dates labelled “Monday the 12th jan” etc. I’ve just put the date. So that if you write in pencil, you can rub it out and use it the following year! Because I myself am quite stingy and hate paying for a diary each year and consider it a waste (though at least you can recycle them I guess). Even though I know women who keep their “Moon Diary” brand ones year after year because they are pretty. It comes with a 2008 wall version, which is marked as a “proper” calendar, and shows the moon phases as well. (in AEST)
And finally, I started making up a Menarche kit, but I was waiting on the diaries being printed so I could put them online (and then got sidetracked). I think it should have a wetbag, so I’ll have to add that. Any other suggestions of what should be in one? I might see if I can get some red candles to include… maybe I can offer the basic kit with just some essentials, and a more involved kit…..

OMGZ, I love it! I almost want one for myself … one of those little spell candles (you don’t have to call it that ;o) would be the perfect finishing touch. And FWIW? I think the wetbag should be small–it’d be overwhelming to have one of those two-sided “mama bag” monsters, I think, especially at school–or maybe this is just my experience of walking down the hallway yesterday in between seeing students, toting what felt like a party clutch.
) Anyway I think it’s lovely, and I’ll at least want to order one for my (as yet imaginary) daughter…. <3

Funny you should say that, I was thinking yesterday that I like the menarche ceremony so much I want to do one for me – since I never got anything like that
Then I thought, “why not alter it to make it for women who want to do it past menarche”…since I’ve seen reference to other women doing it as a sort of reclaiming thing….and I think some of my friends might like to do it with me. So I’m going to tweek the ceremony for use by grown women, and perhaps do a solitary one.
The wetbags I’ve been doing are smallish, but yes, a nice small one, since their pads will be small, would be best suited.
